What is MUDRA?




Mudra’s are hand gestures or sign languages or body languages using hands for the expression of our feelings such as good, bad, sad, happy, unhappy, well, not well, anger, jealous, hate, bliss, bless, concentration, relief, and so on.. Mudra’s are the symbol of our energy centre which has the control over panchabhutas ie.. the five elements and balances their action, reaction, and movements in our physical body. Mudras are the medium of communication in balancing the five elements ie.. the panchabhutas in our physical body. Mudra means the expression of joy or being in the happiness.



Importance of Mudra’s:

1. Mudra’s are very beneficial for spiritual practices & sadhana’s.

2. Mudra’s controls the glands secretion and balances the hormone activities in the physical body.

3. Chakras can be activated by mudra’s.

4. Mudra’s balances the 5 elements in the body.

5. Mudra’s can control tridosha’s vata, pitta, & kapha.

6. Mudra’s develop good immunity in the body to fight against the diseases.

7. Body and mind can be integrated to calmness by the effect of mudra’s.

8. Mudra’s can cure any diseases and illumine the atma jyothi the inner consciousness to glow.

9. Mudra’s can activate and guide us to achieve proper meditation.

10.Mudra’s can purify the blood circulation, & can control the nervous system, and make us knowledgeable, gentle, poise, and happy.



Kinds of mudras:

Gyan mudra, dhyan mudra, worshipping mudra’s, yogic gestures by mudra’s, Healing mudra, yagna mudra, Surya Gayatri mudra, yoga mudra’s, pancha tattwa mudra’s, hasta mudra’s, are some of the important kinds of mudra’s.

The Nature as well as the Human bodies are ruled by “Pancha tattwas” or “Pancha bhutas”. Pancha bhutas are represented by our fingers symbolically as given below.

Guide lines for practicing mudra’s:
Tattwa mudra’s can be performed for balancing the panchatattwa’s.
Prana vayu & Apana vayu can be practiced with equality to balance the vayu in samavastha . Naadi shodhan Pranayama can be practiced with these two mudra’s to become disease free.
Allopathic medicine consuming patients can perform mudra’s to detoxify the effect of these medicines, slowly they can withdraw the allopathic medicines.
Pran, Apan, Prithvi, & Gyan mudra’s can be performed maximum upto 48 minutes.
Perform mudra’s with both hands, to achieve the maximum benefit. Performing with single hand may cause imbalance in the energy level and may lead to tiredness.
Don’t perform any mudras immediately after full meals. Perform at least after 30 minutes of interval. In case of severe gas vayu mudra can be performed at anytime even after or before meals.
Perform mudra’s in some meditative asanas to attain benefit.
Mudra’s will take its own time to cure the disease, faith is important.
